Pope Francis Expresses Intent to Visit Pakistan, Aims to Promote Peace

Pope Francis conveyed a message of “peace” for Pakistan, expressing his desire to visit the country soon during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Vatican City.

The Pope emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to establish peace worldwide, echoing Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s invitation for a visit. Their discussion centered on promoting peace, brotherhood, interfaith harmony, and dialogue.

Notably, the Pope commended Pakistan’s swift efforts in repairing and reconstructing churches after the tragic events in Jaranwala, Faisalabad district, in August 2023. He also expressed concern over the situation in Palestine, emphasizing the need for interfaith dialogue and harmony as vital for resolving global issues.

In response, Interior Minister Naqvi thanked the Pope for his stance on the Palestine issue and highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts in the war against terrorism. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to protecting minorities, as enshrined in the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the Constitution, which guarantees equal rights to all minorities.

The meeting concluded with the Pope offering prayers for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity, expressing his goodwill towards its people. This dialogue between Pakistan and the Vatican reflects a shared commitment to peace, harmony, and mutual respect on the global stage. Additionally, it underscores the significance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises and promoting peace worldwide.

Furthermore, the Pope’s previous call in 2022 for international solidarity in assisting Pakistan during deadly floods highlights the ongoing concern and support for the country’s well-being. His appeal for prompt and generous assistance underscored the importance of global unity in times of crisis.

By expressing prayers for the victims and advocating for international aid, Pope Francis demonstrated solidarity with the people of Pakistan during their times of hardship. This continued engagement from the Vatican reinforces the enduring bond between Pakistan and the global community, fostering hope for a brighter and more resilient future amidst challenges.
