Police have reported the arrest of Ali Raza, husband of Sania Zahra, a 20-year-old pregnant mother of two whose body was discovered hanging in her home near Kumharanwala Chowk, New Multan on July 9.
Following their investigation, authorities apprehended Ali Raza, who is currently in police custody. After his arrest, Ali Raza was taken to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
On July 13, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took notice of the tragic incident involving Sania’s alleged murder reportedly by her husband, Ali Raza.
Sania’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws’ residence on July 9, prompting the chief minister to request a detailed report from the Multan city police officer. Her body was later exhumed as per court orders, and medical samples were sent to a forensic laboratory.
Dr. Munazzah, responsible for anti-violence initiatives for women, confirmed that the Punjab government exhumed Sania Zehra’s body to collect forensic samples. A case was registered against her husband and his family following a complaint by Sania’s father, Asad Abbas. The suspect had initially evaded arrest.
“Asad Abbas, Sania’s father, alleged that his daughter had been murdered during the night and then hanged in the morning to appear as a suicide,” Dr. Munazzah continued. “He has pleaded for justice from the Punjab government and district administration. The post-mortem has been conducted, and I demand that my daughter be tortured and hanged.”
The exhumation was supervised by a magistrate, and the medical samples were sent to Lahore for forensic examination. The New Multan police station has assured that the suspects will be detained promptly.
