Police claim that the judge and his wife involved in the maid’s torture have gone into hiding

ISLAMABAD: Police stated that the judge and his wife allegedly involved in the 13-year-old maid’s torture have gone into hiding, obstructing the ongoing investigations. Police claim that teams conducted raids at the judge’s residences in Islamabad and Lahore but found both houses locked.

There is uncertainty regarding whether the case should be investigated at the police station level or by the special investigation unit, as per the requirements of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act 2021. This uncertainty is causing a delay in the investigation. The concerned superintendent of police (SP) has not yet shared the case details and available documents with the investigation wing.

The complaint was filed by the maid’s father, Manga Khan, along with a medico-legal certificate (MLC) showing 15 injuries on the girl’s body, including marks of strangulation. It was provided to the Capital police by the Sargodha police. However, the suspect has not been charged with the relevant sections related to strangulation, torture, and injury.

The FIR was registered at the Humak police station based on the father’s complaint. He had sent his daughter to work at the judge’s house in Zartaj Housing Society for a monthly salary of Rs10,000.

On July 23, when the father visited the judge’s house with his wife and brother-in-law to see their daughter. They found her injured and crying in a room. She had infected injuries on her head and wounds all over her face, arms, and legs. Her tooth was broken, and her lips and eyes were swollen.

The girl told her family that the judge’s wife would torture her daily with a baton and spoon and denied her dinner.

Police claim to ensure a fair trial

Police emphasized that hiring an underage person for household jobs was an offense, and concealing facts was also a crime. This was due to the girl’s alleged detention and torture at the judge’s house without intervention.

Efforts are underway to arrest the “female accused” as stated by the police through their official Twitter handle. They claim that the case would be investigated fairly, and all legal requirements would be met.
