Apology Video
In a concerning incident, the Karachi police have taken action against two K-Electric officials for allegedly coercing a woman into apologizing on video within a police station, subsequently making the video viral on social media. The incident has prompted an official investigation, resulting in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Iqbal Market police station, initiated by a police official who witnessed the alleged mistreatment.
The FIR outlines that the K-Electric official brought the victim, identified as Tayyaba Maryam, to the police station on December 22 following a verbal altercation. However, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ali Haider resolved the matter by sending the woman home after she submitted a written apology.
Despite the resolution, the accused individuals, identified as Syed Ali Akbar and Fayyaz, purportedly compelled the victim to apologize on video and then proceeded to circulate the footage on social media, allegedly intending to humiliate her. This prompted ASI Muhammad Ikhlaq to file the complaint against the K-Electric employees, pointing to their identification through CCTV footage.
The incident raises concerns about potential misuse of power by the K-Electric officials, as they allegedly sought to publicly shame the woman even after the matter was settled through official channels.
The police’s prompt action in filing an FIR underscores the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for accountability and a thorough investigation into the actions of the accused individuals.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the case highlights the importance of addressing incidents of alleged mistreatment promptly and ensuring that individuals in positions of authority are held accountable for any misuse of power or violation of rights. Overall, Karachi police book K-Electric officials for coercing woman into apology video, sparking controversy and social media outrage.
