The Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme has extended its registration deadline from May 20 to June 1, 2025, giving students additional time to apply and benefit from this nationwide digital empowerment initiative.
The extension offers a renewed opportunity for eligible students to access digital tools that enhance their academic performance, research capabilities, and overall digital literacy. An official from the program noted that the initiative has been widely welcomed by students across Pakistan.
About the Scheme
Part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, the laptop scheme aims to distribute 100,000 laptops to talented and deserving students studying in public sector institutions. The initiative is a key step toward promoting smart education, digital inclusion, and innovation among the country’s youth.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MS/MPhil, or PhD program at a recognized public university. Eligibility requirements include:
- A minimum CGPA of 2.80 or 60% marks for most students.
- First-year students must submit Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) results.
- MS/MPhil/PhD students in their first semester must submit their prior degree results.
- Only currently enrolled students are eligible. Graduates, even if they applied during their studies, are not entitled to receive a laptop.
Quota Distribution
The laptop distribution follows a merit-based system with special quotas to ensure equitable access:
- 18% reserved for students from Balochistan.
- 5% allocated for distance learning students, split equally between Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University (2.5% each).
How to Apply
Students can register through:
- The Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub (DYH) App
- The official website: www.pmyp.gov.pk
The site is currently active and has seen a surge in traffic, with thousands of students already submitting applications.
Merit List and Grievance Process
Once the provisional merit list is published, students will have 15 days to raise objections or grievances. After resolving all concerns, a final merit list will be released.
Beyond Distribution: A Vision for the Future
Officials emphasize that the laptop scheme is more than a handout—it’s a strategic investment in the country’s future. By bridging the digital divide, the government hopes to equip the next generation with the skills and tools needed to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
Thousands of laptops have already been distributed under earlier phases of the scheme, with students in regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa benefitting significantly, according to PM Youth Program Chairperson Babar Saleem.
As the Phase-IV rollout continues, the government remains committed to transparency, efficiency, and merit-based selection, making the scheme a cornerstone of its youth development agenda.
