PM Shehbaz Sharif Offers Support to Oman in Combating Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended Pakistan’s support to Oman in combating terrorism following a recent attack on an imambargah in Muscat that resulted in six deaths and injured over 30 people. The offer was made during a visit by the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Al Kharusi, to the Prime Minister’s House on Friday, as per an official statement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz condemned the attack and expressed condolences while appreciating Oman’s prompt response and cooperation with the Pakistani mission in repatriating the deceased and treating the injured. The tragic incident claimed the lives of six individuals, including four Pakistani nationals, and injured over thirty, most of whom were Pakistanis.

Omani police reported that three suspects, all brothers and Omani nationals, were behind the attack. These individuals, influenced by “misguided ideas,” were killed while resisting security forces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing struggle against terrorism, noting the country’s experience in dealing with such threats over the past several decades. He conveyed his good wishes to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and recalled their recent conversations during Eid ul Adha and Eid ul Fitr. The prime minister reiterated his invitation to the Sultan for an official visit to Pakistan at a convenient time.

On the bilateral front, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the close, brotherly ties between Pakistan and Oman, grounded in shared history, faith, and culture. He expressed a desire to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and defense. He thanked Ambassador Al Kharusi for encouraging a trade and investment delegation to visit Pakistan next week and assured full cooperation from Pakistani authorities to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Ambassador Al Kharusi thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from the Sultan of Oman. He reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment relations with Pakistan.

This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their bilateral relationship and collaborate on addressing common challenges, including the menace of terrorism.
