ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today wrote two letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan and requested him to constitute Judicial Commissions to probe the attempted assassination of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and mysterious death of Arshad Sharif.
About attack on PTI chairman, PM Shehbaz requested the CJP Umar Atta Bandial to setup a Judicial Commission, comprising all available judges of the Supreme Court to hear this case.
Premier said that the commission should specifically examine five questions _ it was whose responsibility to provide security to the PTI convoy; whether or not required security protocols and SOPs were in place to secure the convoy, and the protocols were followed or not; and examine the facts of the incident.
According to letter, the JC must inquire about the compliance of law enforcement agencies and administrative authorities with the prescribed investigation, evidence collection, and handling procedures following the incident.
Who is delaying investigation of the attack and why?. The letter also stated the CJP to probe whether or not the shooting was a result of a criminal conspiracy hatched to assassinate Khan or an act by a lone shooter.
The premier, in his letter, also mentioned the delay in registering a first information report (FIR) regarding the incident.
It added that the law enforcement agencies and investigating authorities functioning under the PTI-backed Punjab government have failed to adhere to the law rules regarding the investigation of the attack including carelessness in securing the crime scene and the container.
PM also said that Khan’s medical report was yet to be taken into custody for forensic analysis and why the PTI chief was taken to a cancer hospital, which was an unregistered medico-legal center.
Meanwhile, regarding murder of Arshad Sharif, PM said in a separate letter to the CJP to form a judicial commission and probe facts surrounding the death of journalist Arshad Sharif. PM said Arshad Sharif lost his life at the hands of Kenyan Police in what was described as a mistaken identity case in October.
Prime Minister raised five questions for the proposed commission:
Through which procedure did Arshad Sharif go abroad in August 2022?
Who facilitated Arshad Sharif’s departure abroad?
Was any federal or provincial agency aware of any threat to Sharif?
Was any organisation or administration aware of any threat to Sharif?
If Sharif’s life was in danger, what steps were taken to protect him?
What were the circumstances which influenced Arshad Sharif to move to Kenya from UAE?
What is the truth behind the shooting incident in which Sharif died?
