PM Emphasizes Economic Stability as Foremost Government Priority

Economic Stability

NEW YORK: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized that the government’s top priority is ensuring economic stability. In an interview with Newsweek, he highlighted the importance of a comprehensive economic revival plan currently in effect.

He stated that the caretaker government is deeply concerned about stability and is fully committed to monitoring and maintaining control over the situation.

In response to questions about the US’s attention in the South Asian region, Kakar stressed the significance of the region, which is home to a substantial population. He pointed out the potential conflicts in the area, including the Kashmir issue, which poses a threat due to its status as a nuclear flashpoint.

Kakar also expressed concerns about the “Indo-Pacific” policy and its implications for the region, emphasizing the need for Pakistan to monitor and prepare for potential challenges.

Furthermore, Kakar discussed the murder of a Sikh leader from the Khalistan Movement in Canada, stating that it has raised serious questions about the role of the Indian state in such incidents.

In terms of economic matters, Kakar mentioned discussions with business bodies in the US interested in Pakistan’s economic revival plans, including privatization and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). He noted constructive discussions with the IMF Managing Director and the caretaker government’s commitment to abide by agreements while allowing the upcoming elected government to continue negotiations with the IMF.

Kakar also highlighted the caretaker government’s efforts to combat sugar and wheat mafias and provide relief to the masses. He expressed appreciation for the IMF’s support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for constructive engagement with Russia while advocating for dialogue over military solutions to conflicts.

Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s stance on the “genocide” in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and discussed efforts to repatriate refugees in the country.
