The management of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has made a decision to establish a ladies’ park within the hospital and has started development work and planting.
The park will feature a jogging track and will be exclusively available to female staff.
Pims spokesperson, Dr. Haider Abbasi, informed that while the hospital discourages patients from bringing more than one attendant, due to cultural norms in Pakistan, a significant number of attendants still accompany patients to the hospital.
He further stated:
“The management has decided to establish a ladies’ park so they could go there for walks. It would not only encourage women who usually avoid walking and other physical activities, to start walking but at the same time the rush of attendants in the hospital will decrease.”
According to him, Pims Executive Director Professor Naeem Malik came up with the idea for the park, and to his knowledge, it will be the only one of its kind in both public and private sector hospitals in Islamabad.
He said:
“Being a cardiologist, Dr. Malik believes that physical activities such as jogging and walk keep people healthy and chances of a number of diseases including cardiovascular diseases are reduced.”
He highlighted that in Pakistan, 25% of adults were diabetic, indicating a general inclination towards a sedentary lifestyle rather than physical activity.
“We aim to raise awareness among the masses that even if they can’t jog, they should at least take a walk as it promotes good health and can ultimately decrease the burden on hospitals.

The introduction of a jogging track in the hospital is a significant step towards promoting physical activity,” he stated.
Furthermore, the hospital has completed the construction of a separate and renovated building for the School of Nursing, and advanced endoscopy facilities such as Endoscopic Ultrasound and Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are now operational.
He also mentioned that the installation of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine is currently in progress and will soon be operational.
Pims is among the largest hospitals in Pakistan, with an average of 10,000 to 15,000 patients visiting the hospital daily.
