PILDAT Hails 15th National Assembly as the  Most Productive in Two Decades

The legislative body enacted 45% more laws compared to the previous assembly

ISLAMABAD: According to an analysis by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT), the 15th National Assembly of Pakistan, which was dissolved on Thursday, achieved the highest count of laws passed since 2002.

The analysis revealed that the 15th National Assembly of Pakistan passed the highest number of laws since 2002.

Legislative activity also experienced a surge, with a 45% increase in the number of laws passed compared to the previous assembly.

Throughout its five-year tenure, the assembly convened for 452 sessions, averaging 90 sessions per year.

This figure is slightly lower than the average yearly sessions of the 14th National Assembly, which amounted to 99.

Notably, the 15th National Assembly achieved a historic milestone by successfully executing the first-ever vote of no confidence against a prime minister in Pakistan’s history. Imran Khan was removed from office in April 2022, and Shehbaz Sharif was elected as his successor.

The 15th National Assembly stands as the fourth to fulfill its complete five-year term since the nation’s independence in 1947.

Preceding assemblies that completed their full terms were elected in 2002, 2008, and 2013.

Sadiq Sanjrani Also Emerges As A Strong Candidate For Caretaker PM

Meanwhile, according to sources, Sadiq Sanjrani is a strong candidate for the caretaker prime minister. Being Chairman of the Senate, Sanjrani has successfully run the Upper House. He did not create problems for any party in the Senate.

Thus Sadiq Sanjrani appears a more suitable candidate than others as he has good experience dealing with leaders of different parties and Senators as well.

On Thursday, PM Shehbaz Sharif and the Opposition leader Raja Riaz held the first meeting. They discussed the names of the candidates to select one of them as caretaker PM.
