PIA Special Flight
The Pakistani government successfully evacuated 71 nationals from Lebanon and Syria, with a special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight arriving in Karachi during the early hours of Wednesday.
The Foreign Office confirmed that the flight repatriated 67 Pakistanis from Lebanon, who had travelled to Damascus by road before being airlifted to Pakistan. Additionally, four Pakistanis were evacuated directly from Syria.
In a statement, the Foreign Office explained that the Pakistan embassies in Lebanon and Syria ensured smooth arrangements for the evacuation.
Security, transportation, and food provisions were organized to ensure the safety and well-being of the evacuees, ensuring an incident-free journey through Lebanon.
The coordinated efforts of the Pakistani embassies in both countries played a vital role in facilitating the safe return of the nationals.
Upon arrival at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the returning Pakistanis were warmly welcomed by Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Sindh Industries Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo.
Governor Tessori emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to bringing home the remaining Pakistanis still stranded in Lebanon, assuring the public that further repatriation efforts would continue until all affected citizens were safely returned.
Speaking at the airport, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui acknowledged the challenges involved in organizing such a mission.
He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had taken full responsibility for ensuring the safe and swift return of the Pakistanis, coordinating closely with embassies and other agencies.
Sindh Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo also commended the Sindh government’s active involvement in facilitating the repatriation efforts.
He emphasized that the timely response of the authorities, especially the Pakistan embassies, had been crucial to ensuring a successful operation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously activated its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) to assist Pakistani nationals and their families trapped in Lebanon after the suspension of regular flight operations.
This special evacuation marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to ensure the safe return of all Pakistanis from conflict-affected regions.
