ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced on Friday that it has altered flight routes to several international destinations due to restrictions in Iranian airspace following heightened tensions and Israeli military actions in the region.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed that flights to Gulf countries are now being rerouted through Omani airspace, specifically the Muscat Flight Information Region (FIR), as a precautionary measure.
“Flights bound for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain are now using alternate routes via Oman,” the spokesperson said.
In addition to Gulf routes, PIA has also revised flight paths for long-haul services to Toronto and Paris, which are now operating through Omani-controlled airspace to ensure passenger safety and avoid affected regions.
The changes come as several countries and airlines review airspace usage amid rising regional instability triggered by Israeli military operations and Iran’s subsequent airspace restrictions. PIA said it is closely monitoring the situation and will make further adjustments if necessary.
