PIA Lease Dispute
KARACHI: On Wednesday, sources reported that the federal government has chosen to intervene in the leasing dispute involving two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) A320 planes, which has stranded in Indonesia for two years.
The federal government chose to intervene because the PIA management had failed to resolve the leasing dispute involving these two aircraft stationed in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, for the past two years.
A high-level delegation, headed by the secretary of aviation, will travel to Indonesia on Sunday to hold discussions with the leasing company AirAsia. The delegation will include the PIA CEO and Director of Engineering.
The PIA spokesperson confirmed the upcoming visit of the aviation secretary-led delegation to Indonesia to address the two aircraft leasing dispute with AirAsia.
The spokesperson disclosed that the national flag carrier had grounded two Airbus 320 planes in Jakarta since September 2021 due to the leasing dispute. It came to light that PIA had planned to acquire the aircraft for an overhaul at a cost of $30 million.
However, the leasing company had initially agreed to sell the planes before reversing its decision. The high-level delegation will engage in negotiations with the leasing company regarding these two PIA aircraft.
The spokesperson further emphasized that the aircraft has positioned in Jakarta in accordance with the aircraft delivery plan finalized with the company.
PSO Suspends Fuel Supply To PIA Due To Unpaid Dues
Moreover,
Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has taken the decisive step of suspending fuel supply to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to outstanding dues.
This suspension of fuel supply occurred specifically at Lahore airport, leading to disruptions for PIA passengers.
Notably, flights such as Lahore to Madina PK-747 and Lahore to Karachi PK 305 were significantly delayed due to the unavailability of fuel.
