PIA Country Manager in Bahrain Arrested on Embezzlement Charges

Bahraini authorities have arrested the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) country manager on charges of embezzlement, accusing him of taking passengers’ luggage to his office. The arrest has sparked controversy, with PIA defending its country manager and describing the incident as a “misunderstanding.”

The PIA spokesperson clarified that the airline does not maintain an office at the Bahrain airport. According to the spokesperson, any unclaimed luggage was transferred to the airline’s central office, from where it was subsequently delivered to the passengers.

The spokesperson emphasized that the country manager’s actions were part of standard procedure and did not constitute a criminal offense. The airline has engaged senior officials to defend the case and assured that updates will be provided regularly.

In response to the incident, the Pakistani embassy in Bahrain also termed it a “misunderstanding.” The embassy confirmed that the central office was actively contacting passengers to ensure their belongings were returned promptly. Both the airline and the embassy are working to resolve the issue and clear the country manager of any wrongdoing. The embassy stated that the central office was in contact with the passengers to ensure their belongings were returned to them.

PIA’s defense has been supported by senior officials who are actively involved in handling the case. The spokesperson reiterated that the country manager’s actions do not constitute a criminal offense and that the airline is confident in his innocence.

As the situation develops, PIA is committed to maintaining transparency and keeping stakeholders informed. The airline’s management is confident that the matter will be resolved favorably and that the country manager will be exonerated of all charges. This incident highlights the complexities and challenges faced by international airlines in managing logistical issues and maintaining their reputation amidst allegations and misunderstandings.
