Persistent heavy rain breaks humidity; low-lying areas and crops Inundated

ISLAMABAD: Since early morning, various areas of Lahore have been encountering heavy showers accompanied by thunder as the latest spell of monsoon rains persists. The downpour has led to the flooding of low-lying regions.

The chief meteorologist forecasts a fresh spell of monsoon rains starting from August 1, which may lead to urban flooding.

However, the recent rain has caused a dip in the mercury level and humidity.

In Lahore, the temperature has decreased by 11 degrees, and heavy downpour is expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Areas like Rehmanpura, Garhi Shahu, Wahdat Colony, Joray Pul, Chungi Amar Sidhu, and Ferozepur Road reported heavy rain, while Mughalpura, Canal Road, Nishtar Town, Harbanspura, Gulberg, Defence, Qaddafi Stadium, Model Town, Kot Lakhpat, Faisal Town, and Johar Town experienced relatively lesser rainfall.

The downpour is expected to continue intermittently throughout the day. The chief meteorologist warns that the fresh spell of monsoon, starting from August 1, may result in urban flooding.

The heaviest rain in Lahore has been recorded at Gulshan-e-Ravi with 156 millimeters, followed by 147mm at Pani wala Talab, Qartaba Chowk 109mm, Nishtar Town 107mm, Lakshmi Chowk 101mm, Johar Town 96mm, and Tajpura 82mm

Trip of Feeders

Heavy rain in Lahore caused 95 feeders of LESCO to trip, leading to electricity supply suspension in different areas.

LESCO field staff is on high alert but facing challenges in restoring power due to the rain.

A warning issued to stay at least 10 feet away from electricity installations and high-tension power lines.

Nankana Sahib and nearby areas also experienced heavy rain with thunderstorms and a cool breeze, bringing pleasant weather.

Roof Collapse Claims Two-Year-Old’s Life

Last night, Mansehra experienced rainfall, leading to flooding in canals and nullahs in the Konsh and Siran valleys.

In Ajmera city of Battagram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a tragic incident occurred as a two-year-old girl lost her life when the roof of her house collapsed.

Disrupted Rail Schedule

The rain has caused delays in rail operations in various cities of Punjab. Trains from Karachi to Lahore and from Faisalabad to Karachi experienced delays.

As per the updated schedule, the Karakoram Express will now depart from Lahore to Karachi at 11:15 pm instead of 3 pm, and the Business Express will depart at 8:25 pm instead of 4 pm.

Likewise, the Millat Express will leave Faisalabad for Karachi at 10:10 pm instead of 4 pm. However, all other trains are running on their regular schedules.

Countrywide Rainfall

Rainfall in Pindi Bhattian and Silakot, with reduced temperatures and inundated low-lying areas.

Thunderstorm with cold winds in Multan and surrounding areas.

Forecast predicts more rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Heavy downpour in various districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, closing link roads and disrupting power supply.

Karachi experiences light to heavy rain in different parts, with the possibility of drizzle and light rain in the forecast.

Today’s minimum temperature in Karachi is 28 degrees Celsius, with the maximum expected to be 30 to 32 degrees.

Flooding and Dam Conditions

Flood situation in River Sutlej with rising water flow. Inflow and outflow at Head Sulemanki is 81,540 cusecs.

Burewala and Chishtian settlements inundated, rescue efforts ongoing. Vehari district on high alert for a major current of 80,000 cusecs.

Rising water levels impact Ravi River and Rawal Dam. Inflow at Guddu Barrage recorded at 410,886 cusecs, low-level flood situation in Kashmore. Caution advised to avoid water bodies and streams.
