A Pakistani delegation, featuring both former and current parliamentarians, military officials, and medical professionals, is preparing to travel to the United States to discuss the repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
This significant development was announced during a recent court hearing focused on Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s application for her sister’s recovery and return to Pakistan.
The Additional Attorney General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving Dr. Siddiqui’s situation, underscoring ongoing efforts to secure her repatriation.
In a related move, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with the U.S., a topic that was also brought up in court discussions. Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq sought clarification on the expected timeline for a response regarding this agreement, with officials suggesting that a reply may be forthcoming soon.
Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui has emphasized the need for a medical check-up for her sister, highlighting concerns for Dr. Aafia’s health. Notably, it has been confirmed that the Prime Minister has approved the delegation’s trip.
Additionally, Dr. Fawzia’s family has requested that medical professionals accompany the delegation to ensure Aafia’s care during this process.
The Islamabad High Court has adjourned the hearing concerning these matters, leaving the next steps contingent on the outcomes of the discussions in the U.S.
As the delegation prepares for this important journey, the focus remains on securing a positive resolution for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s situation, which has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally.
