ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology, Dr. Umar Saif, announced on Wednesday that the government will launch a project to establish 10,000 E-Rozgar centers nationwide, equipped with modern facilities to support freelancers and start-ups starting from January 11.

The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by approximately 1.5 million freelancers who lack suitable workspaces. Dr. Umar Saif emphasized that providing freelancers with the necessary tools and a conducive environment is crucial for their success in the digital landscape.
The establishment of joint E-Rozgar centers is expected to boost investment in the country and create new employment opportunities. Dr. Umar encouraged the youth to embrace entrepreneurship, highlighting the potential for earning substantial stipends through E-Rozgar.
Additionally, another project is set to commence on January 7, introducing a standardized test for IT graduates through the Higher Education Commission. The test will assess their skills, and those who pass will be offered mandatory internships in the IT industry.
Dr. Umar Saif expressed hope that this initiative will address the gap between the number of IT graduates and eligible employment opportunities in IT companies.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the recent decision by the State Bank of Pakistan allowing IT companies to retain 50% of their receipts in dollar accounts is expected to contribute to the growth of IT exports, with a target of reaching $4 billion.
Dr. Umar Saif emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the youth with information technology skills, fostering innovation, and creating employment opportunities in the IT sector. The initiatives aim to position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global IT industry.
