According to a recently released report, individuals residing in Pakistan exhibit a higher level of happiness when compared to their counterparts in neighboring countries, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
The World Happiness Report 2024 represents a joint effort by esteemed organizations, including the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, and the WHR’s Editorial Board.
According to the findings, Finland retains its title as the happiest country in the world for the seventh consecutive time. Factors contributing to Finland’s high happiness levels include its high standard of living, quality education, excellent healthcare, and relatively low corruption rates despite challenges like the pandemic and economic disruptions.
The report encompasses data from over 140 countries, with Nordic nations dominating the top positions. Denmark secures the 2nd spot, followed by Iceland in 3rd and Sweden in 4th place. Conversely, the United States (23), Germany (24), and Mexico (25) occupy the lowest ranks among the 25 countries evaluated.
According to the latest report on the World Happiness Index, Pakistan has been positioned at 108, surpassing India (126), Bangladesh (129), and Afghanistan (143). Pakistan’s score of 4.6 out of 10 indicates improvement in several factors such as social support, freedom of choice, and charitable giving. The report highlights the need for policymakers to prioritize enhancing the quality of life. It is worth noting that Pakistan’s ranking has significantly improved from 121 in the previous year’s report.
Countries ranked lower than Pakistan include Niger (109), Burkina Faso (110), and Mauritania (111), followed by Gambia, Chad, Kenya, and Tunisia among 115 countries. The bottom five countries preceding Afghanistan are Zimbabwe, Congo, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, and Lebanon, placed at 138, 139, 140, 141, and 142 respectively.
Among Middle Eastern nations, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are positioned at 22 and 28 respectively. Singapore ranks 30th, Japan 50th, and South Korea 51st among Asian nations. Other rankings include Iran at 100, Laos at 94, Nepal at 93, and Iraq at 92 within the top 100 countries.
The top 60 countries also feature Cyprus (50), the Philippines (53), Vietnam (54), Portugal (55), Hungary (56), Paraguay (57), Thailand (58), Malaysia (59), and China (60).
Key variables considered in the report include GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and corruption. The survey, utilizing a rating scale from 0 to 10 known as the Cantril ladder, involved responses from 1000 participants.
