The 9th of Muharram is being observed across Pakistan today (Saturday) with solemnity and deep reverence, commemorating the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.
To mark Ashura, the federal government has declared public holidays on July 5 and 6.
Religious gatherings (majalis) are taking place in cities large and small, accompanied by Tazia and Alam processions at various locations nationwide.
Authorities have enforced stringent security arrangements to ensure peace and safety during these observances.
The 9th of Muharram holds deep significance for Shia Muslims as a day of mourning linked to the historic Battle of Karbala.
Karachi
In Karachi, the main procession for the 9th of Muharram will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah.
Police have sealed all shops and markets along the designated procession route. Major roads, including M.A. Jinnah Road, Saddar, Empress Market, Preedy Street, and Kharadar, have been closed off with containers to control access.
Mobile phone services will remain suspended in areas surrounding the procession route to prevent any security threats. A large police deployment, along with Bomb Disposal Squad teams and Rangers, are on high alert.
Islamabad
In Islamabad, for the first time, a mobile control room has been established as part of the Ashura security strategy, following instructions from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
