To safeguard the nation from terrorist groups, Pakistani forces conduct operations in border regions the Foreign Office said on Thursday.
The security of its citizens is a top priority for Pakistan. At a press briefing in Islamabad, FO spokesperson responded to questions by saying, “Our security and law enforcement personnel conduct operations in the border areas to protect the people of Pakistan from terror groups, including TTP.”
The Taliban government accused Pakistan of carrying out an airstrike on its territory on Tuesday, which prompted this announcement.
Because of continuous border confrontations and Islamabad’s repeated demands that Kabul act against the outlawed Fitna Al Khawarij, which Pakistan claims exploits Afghan territory to conduct assaults, tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have increased. The Afghan administration has refuted these allegations.
The remarks made by the FO spokesperson were Pakistan’s first formal reaction to the recent airstrikes, which security authorities reported specifically targeted terrorist compounds in the Paktika area in eastern Afghanistan.
On Tuesday night, Pakistani fighter jets reportedly bombed four sites, aiming to neutralise several suspected terrorists.
“These operations are carefully selected and are based on authentic and concrete intelligence. We respect the sovereignty of Afghanistan,” she said and added that the country has always prioritised dialogue and cooperation with Afghanistan to confront the terror threat.
The FO spokesperson expressed the hope that Afghanistan would not allow its territory to be used for terrorist attacks against Pakistan. “We believe that terrorist groups like TTP are a collective threat to regional peace and security. It is therefore important for us to work together to combat the threat posed by TTP.”
