Pakistan and the European Union recently concluded the fifth round of their Dialogue on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament, engaging in comprehensive discussions aimed at promoting global and regional peace, security, and strategic stability.
A joint statement released by both parties outlined that the dialogue covered a broad spectrum of disarmament and non-proliferation matters. Key focus areas included agendas discussed in the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and major international treaties such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Participants also exchanged views on recent developments in export control regimes and assessed the security challenges posed by emerging technologies.
This dialogue is a vital element of the wider Pakistan-EU strategic partnership, serving as a constructive platform to explore shared goals in arms control, disarmament, and the prevention of weapons proliferation.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing such engagements and agreed to hold the sixth round of the dialogue in Brussels in 2026.
The Pakistani side was led by Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS), while the European Union’s delegation was headed by Ambassador Stephan Klement, EU Special Envoy for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.
