ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a change in venue for the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Initially set to be held in Karachi, the match will now take place in Rawalpindi. This decision was made after discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The match is scheduled to run from August 30 to September 3. The PCB explained that ongoing construction at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, part of preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy, necessitated the shift.
By relocating the Test to Rawalpindi, fans will have the chance to enjoy live cricket in person, while Pakistan’s busy international season kicks off with both Tests being played at the new venue.
Pakistan’s cricket team is set for a packed schedule, featuring 9 Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs between August 21 and April 5.
The PCB highlighted concerns from construction experts, who warned that continued work during match hours could result in significant noise pollution, potentially disrupting players, officials, broadcasters, and media personnel. Additionally, smoke from the construction could pose health risks.
To ensure the National Bank Stadium is ready for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, the PCB decided, after consulting all stakeholders, that both Tests would be moved to Rawalpindi.
The PCB also noted, “At this stage, we prefer not to speculate about hosting the second Test in Karachi from October 15 to 19. We will continue to collaborate with architects and construction experts to ensure the safe hosting of the match.”
The first Test against Bangladesh will begin in Rawalpindi on August 21, with the second Test following on August 30.
In related developments, the Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ teams will continue their series in Islamabad. After a drawn first four-day match, the second four-day match will start on August 20 at the Islamabad Club, with three 50-over matches set for August 26, 28, and 30.
Ticket sales information for both Test matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will be released soon, according to the PCB.
