Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has categorically denied any secret communications between the military establishment and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. He emphasized that the army maintains a neutral stance and has no involvement in political discussions.
Speaking in an interview with BBC, Maj Gen Chaudhry reaffirmed the army’s consistent position that political issues should be handled solely by political stakeholders. “There are absolutely no backchannel talks with Imran Khan. The Pakistan Army is not part of any political dialogue,” he stated, dismissing speculation amid ongoing political instability in the country.
National Unity and the Balochistan Narrative
Addressing concerns about Balochistan, Maj Gen Chaudhry rejected claims of widespread discontent in the province. He underlined the patriotism of the Baloch people, asserting their firm commitment to the nation.
“Balochistan is not separate from Pakistan — it is its pride,” he said. “We are not defined by ethnic divisions; we are one united nation.”
He criticized elements allegedly funded by India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) for promoting unrest through disinformation campaigns. “Those who thrive on Indian funding and use social media to malign Pakistan are detached from reality,” he added. While acknowledging the presence of anti-state sentiment in parts of the province, he said it is not as prevalent as often portrayed.
Terrorist groups, he said, were deliberately targeting development initiatives in the province, including infrastructure and public welfare projects. “Every time terrorists launch attacks in Balochistan, we respond with full force,” he said.
Combating Terrorism and Addressing Missing Persons
Maj Gen Chaudhry assured that Pakistan’s security forces are effectively countering terrorism. “We eliminate threats wherever they emerge. Our response to the Gwadar attack is proof,” he stated, referencing recent counterterrorism operations.
He condemned the targeting of innocent civilians and passengers by militant groups and assured the nation that such atrocities will be avenged.
On the issue of missing persons, the ISPR chief acknowledged the public’s concerns and informed that a dedicated commission is actively working to resolve the matter. “No one should be forcibly taken from their home. The government is committed to finding every missing individual. Our judicial system must also evolve to ensure justice. Forced disappearances are against the law,” he noted.
Warning to Afghan Authorities
Maj Gen Chaudhry issued a firm warning to the interim government in Afghanistan, urging them not to provide safe haven to terrorists targeting Pakistan.
“They have been explicitly warned: stop sheltering foreign terrorists. If this continues, Pakistan will take decisive action,” he concluded.
