ISLAMABAD: After winning the WTA Finals in Cancun, tennis player Ons Jabeur announced her intention to donate a portion of her prize money to support Palestinians.

She defeated Markéta Vondroušová with a score of 6-4, 6-3, making a strong comeback following her earlier loss to Coco Gauff. During an emotional post-match interview, Jabeur expressed her concerns about the ongoing conflict in Gaza and her sadness over the loss of lives, particularly among children and babies. She emphasized that her decision was driven by a desire for global peace rather than political motives.
At 29 years old, Jabeur is striving to reach the top four in the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. She is set to face group leader Iga Swiatek in her last group stage match.
Swiatek, in her match against Coco Gauff, secured a 6-0, 6-4 victory, taking a commanding lead in the first set and ultimately winning the match. Gauff put up a strong fight in the second set but faced challenges, including double faults, leading to her defeat.
In another match, Ons Jabeur avenged her previous Wimbledon final loss to Vondroušová with a straight-set victory. She won the first set with a break of Vondroušová’s serve and continued her success in the second set. These results have left Swiatek at the top of the group with two wins, followed by Jabeur and Gauff, each with one win, while Vondroušová is at the bottom with two losses. However, all four players in the group still have a chance to reach the semi-finals.
