ISLAMABAD: The newly-elected government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the pricing for petrol and diesel for the upcoming fortnight, effective from March 16.
According to a statement from the Finance Division, the price of petrol will be maintained at Rs279.75 per litre, while the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs1.77 per litre, bringing it down to Rs285.56 per litre.
These prices will be applicable until March 31, starting from midnight on March 15.
Additionally, sources within the ministry revealed that the price of kerosene oil has been decreased to Rs188.86 per litre after a reduction of Rs1.35 per litre, and the price of light diesel oil has been slashed by Rs2.12 per litre.
High-speed diesel finds extensive application in heavy vehicles, trains, and agricultural machinery like trucks, buses, tractors, tube wells, and threshers, thereby impacting the costs of essential commodities, including vegetables.

Notably, on March 1, during the interim caretaker government’s tenure, a petrol price hike of Rs4.13 per litre was approved for the subsequent fortnight. The Finance Ministry endorsed this adjustment based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Following the adjustment, petrol was priced at Rs279.75 per litre, while the rate for High-Speed Diesel (HSD) remained unaffected.
