The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has provided fresh updates on multiple airport projects underway across the country.
According to official sources, the feasibility study for a new airport in Mirpur has nearly reached completion, while land acquisition is actively progressing for the planned airport in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan).
In Sukkur, authorities are weighing two options: either build a brand-new airport or expand the existing facility. Briefings on both scenarios have been shared with local Members of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Defence has instructed the PAA to assist in restarting commercial flights at Hyderabad Airport. However, officials noted that the current runway length limits operations to smaller aircraft.
Additionally, proposals are under consideration to establish a pilot training school at Hyderabad Airport to boost aviation training capacity.
Earlier reports highlighted that the federal government, led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), approved plans for an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). This move follows long-standing demands from overseas Pakistanis.
Supporting the initiative, several British Members of Parliament of Kashmiri descent had sent a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, advocating for the airport’s construction.
In Islamabad, the PAA has already invited consultancy firms through a public advertisement to advance planning and design work for the new airport in AJK.
These projects mark part of broader efforts to improve aviation infrastructure, support regional connectivity, and address community demands across Pakistan.
