New Additional Judges Take Oath at Islamabad High Court

Additional Judges

Two new additional judges, Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, were officially sworn in at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a ceremony held recently.

The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, who administered the oath to the newly appointed judges, marking an important step in strengthening the judicial bench at the IHC.

Following the oath-taking, Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan formally became part of the IHC, contributing to its judicial capacity. With their induction, the IHC has now updated its roster, and a new schedule has been issued, which will come into effect starting this week.

According to the revised roster, five division benches and 10 single benches will be operational to handle the growing caseload.

The division benches have been carefully arranged with specific pairings of judges. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Inam Amin Minhas, as well as Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, will form two of the division benches.

Other division benches include Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Summaira Rafat Imtiaz, Justice Tariq Jahangiri and Justice Azam Khan, and Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir.

In a related development, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is scheduled to meet on February 1 to discuss the nomination of nine additional judges to the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The meeting will take place at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad and will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi. A total of 40 names have been forwarded to the JCP for consideration, including those of district and session judges such as Kaleem Arshad Khan, Farrukh Jamshed, Inaamullah Khan, and Sophia Waqar Khattak.

In addition to the district judges, several lawyers have also been nominated for consideration, including Abdul Fayyaz, Kaleem Khan, Aamir Javed, Atif Ali Khan, and others.

The names on the list represent a broad spectrum of experienced legal professionals, ensuring a fair and comprehensive process for the upcoming judicial appointments.

This induction and the ongoing efforts to fill vacancies at the PHC are part of Pakistan’s continued commitment to judicial reforms, ensuring that courts remain equipped to handle the increasing number of cases in an efficient and timely manner.
