ISLAMABAD: Arshad Nadeem, the arch-rival of Neeraj Chopra, has excluded himself from the 2023 Asian Games in China due to persistent pain in his right knee.
Upon his arrival in Hangzhou for the first training session on September 27, 2023, Arshad Nadeem disclosed and lodged a complaint with Dr. Asad Abbas, who accompanied him, about persistent pain he had been enduring for several months. This concern had become particularly urgent following the World Athletics Championship.
On October 2, he once again reported experiencing pain in his right knee and expressed a desire to undergo an evaluation to assess its impact on his ability to partake in the Javelin Throw event at the Asian Games.
The Chief Medical Officer of the Pakistan Contingent recommended a comprehensive medical examination.
Arshad Nadeem underwent a thorough medical assessment, including a non-invasive MRI test at a local hospital in Hangzhou.
The MRI results disclosed a chronic injury that he had been carrying.
Following consultations with medical professionals, Arshad Nadeem has now made the decision not to participate in the Asian Games to avoid any unforeseen circumstances that could impede his training regimen and his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
