The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) held more than 30 high-profile cases for the past four years, keeping the accused in custody for up to 1,193 days. Thirty high-profile individuals, including three former prime ministers, two former chief ministers, 16 ministers, and several other senior officials, were accused of corruption amounting to PKR 156 billion.
According to data NAB could not prove the allegations against more than 30 significant personalities. These individuals include the former prime minister Imran Khan, who faced corruption charges in the Al-Qadir University Trust corruption case.
The current Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, was also in NAB custody for 79 days
Former President Asif Ali Zardari spent 68 days in NAB custody in the fake accounts case.
Faryal Talpur spent 56 days in NAB custody and 113 days in jail in the same case.
Former Chief Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi spent 68 days in NAB custody and 79 days in jail.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Sugar Mills were in NAB custody for 47 days and spent 39 days in jail.
Former Chief Minister of Punjab Hamza Shahbaz spent 83 days in NAB custody and 516 days in jail in the money laundering case.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani spent 53 days in custody and 186 days in jail.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon spent 606 days in jail.
Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique spent 404 days in custody.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information, Ahmad Chima, spent 616 days in jail in a clear corruption case under the old NAB law, Section 24C.
