Muzaffarabad High Court Approves Post-Arrest Bail for Ahmed Farhad

Ahmed Farhad

Muzaffarabad High Court Chief Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja has approved the post-arrest bail for poet Ahmed Farhad, setting the bail amount at surety bonds of Rs0.2 million.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja addressed the broader issues within the judicial system that had affected Ahmed Farhad’s case.

He remarked on the unfortunate circumstances that led to Farhad’s suffering due to systemic corruption within the judiciary.

“In today’s era, judges also look at the media like politicians to see if the news is on the media or not,” Justice Raja commented, reflecting on the media’s influence on judicial proceedings.

He emphasized that such an impression undermines the credibility of the judicial system in Azad Kashmir, noting, “Azad Kashmir is a small state, and we have our judicial system.”

Addressing Farhad’s wife, Chief Justice Raja advised that Ahmed Farhad should indeed continue to express his feelings through his poetry but cautioned against venturing into journalism.

“Ahmed Farhad should only write poetry, not journalism,” he warned, suggesting that the poet’s primary focus should remain on his artistic endeavors.

The circumstances leading to Farhad’s arrest were recounted by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir police. According to their statement, Ahmed Farhad was detained at the Kohala checkpost on Wednesday.

He was subsequently transferred to Dhirkot police station, where charges were filed against him. The police complaint alleged that Farhad had misbehaved with police officials at the checkpost and interfered in government affairs. Farhad, when questioned, stated that he was traveling from Islamabad to Bagh at the time of his arrest.

The police maintained that Farhad’s actions constituted interference in official operations, which led to his detention and the filing of charges.

The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings drew significant attention, highlighting issues related to the treatment of individuals by law enforcement and the judicial system.

Chief Justice Raja’s decision to grant bail to Ahmed Farhad comes as a relief to his supporters, who view the poet’s arrest as a reflection of deeper issues within the system.

The Chief Justice’s remarks during the hearing underscored the need for reform and greater integrity within the judicial process, ensuring that justice is administered fairly and without undue influence from external factors.

The case of Ahmed Farhad serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by individuals in expressing their views and the importance of upholding the principles of justice and freedom of expression.

As Farhad awaits further legal proceedings, the decision to grant him bail marks a significant step in addressing the immediate concerns surrounding his detention.
