Security forces successfully repelled multiple terrorist attacks targeting police stations and security posts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past two nights, neutralizing several militants.
According to the Central Police Office, coordinated attacks occurred in Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Peshawar, where law enforcement agencies effectively countered the assaults.
In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces dismantled a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) camp and temporary hideouts in the mountainous areas between Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Mianwali.
In Peshawar, unidentified individuals hurled a hand grenade at the Malazai checkpost of the Regi police station. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and a search operation was launched to track down the attackers.
Meanwhile, terrorists launched an assault on the Gambila Police Station in Lakki Marwat from two directions, prompting a swift response from the Quick Response Force (QRF). The exchange of fire lasted 15 minutes, forcing the assailants to retreat without inflicting any casualties, according to Lakki Marwat DPO Jawwad Ishaq.
Similarly, militants attacked a Bara Rifles security checkpoint on Khyber’s Jamrud Bypass, but security personnel successfully repelled the assault. Two security officials sustained injuries in the firefight, leading to a subsequent search operation in the area.
In separate counter-terror operations, security forces eliminated two militants in Lakki Marwat and Karak. Following their retreat, militants targeted the Abbas Khatak checkpost.
In Tank, police forces neutralized one terrorist and injured several others after an attack on the Nasran checkpost. Additionally, in Karak, security forces eliminated terrorist commander Kashif Shakar Khel, affiliated with the Kaleemullah group.
Tragically, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Noor Salam was martyred by a sniper bullet during an operation in Karak, according to the Central Police Office.
Authorities have since intensified search operations in the affected areas to apprehend remaining militants.
These developments come amid a surge in terrorism, with Pakistan becoming the second-most terrorism-affected country in 2024, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2025. The report highlights a sharp 45% increase in terrorism-related fatalities, rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024—one of the steepest global surges.
In response to the deteriorating security situation, an in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has been scheduled for March 18. The meeting, convened by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, will begin at 1:30 PM, where military leadership will provide a detailed briefing on the current security landscape.
Both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, sharing borders with Afghanistan, have borne the brunt of escalating militant violence in recent months.
