ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its forecast for the sighting of the moon for the Islamic month of Muharram 1445 Hijri.
The PMD’s Climate Data Processing Center expects to sight the moon of Muharram on Tuesday, July 18, corresponding to the 29th of Zilhaj. They predict that Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, will fall on Friday, July 28.
While the official birth of the moon is scheduled for July 17 at 11:32 pm, meteorological experts anticipate that cloud cover may obstruct its visibility in many parts of the country. Experts expect the sunset on July 18 to occur at 7:24 pm. There is a possibility of the moon rising at 8 pm on the same day. However, experts caution that cloud cover could potentially affect moon sighting in various cities.
To facilitate the moon sighting process, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has scheduled a meeting in Quetta. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will chair the meeting. The committee will deliberate and make the official decision regarding the sighting of the moon.
It is important to note that the PMD’s announcement provides an initial prediction. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision on this matter. It would be based on authenticated testimonies and credible witnesses from different parts of the country.
