Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a landmark livestock distribution initiative aimed at empowering widowed and divorced women in rural areas of southern Punjab. This initiative seeks to reduce economic disparities between urban and rural communities while supporting women’s financial independence.
Under the scheme, the provincial government will distribute buffaloes and cows valued at Rs2 billion to 11,000 eligible women across 12 districts. Targeting women up to the age of 55, the program allows applications to be submitted conveniently through a dedicated mobile application.
In its first phase, 4,870 cattle will be distributed free of cost in districts including Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah, and Kot Addu. Other areas covered in the program are Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that this initiative is a step toward ensuring economic justice and equal opportunities for women in rural areas. “A daughter in a village deserves the same chances for development as anyone in a city,” she stated.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to upholding women’s rights to education, healthcare, and employment, regardless of their geographic location.
