Next month, Malala Yousafzai, the world’s youngest Nobel laureate, and her father Ziauddin Yousafzai are scheduled to visit the United States. They will attend a fundraising gala in support of Pakistani singer Shehzad Roy’s educational initiatives, Zindagi Trust and Durbeen.
The father-daughter pair, renowned for their advocacy for girls’ education globally, will endorse Roy’s education-focused causes on March 1 and 2 in Florida and Texas, respectively.
Malala has gained international acclaim as a symbol of resistance against the Taliban’s attempts to deprive women of education and other rights. In 2014, she became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient at 17 for her dedication to children’s rights.
Both Malala and her father will endorse both initiatives, benefiting young girls attending Zindagi Trust-adopted schools and Durbeen, its affiliated organization focused on teacher training.
During the gala, Roy will perform live to support the advancement of these educational initiatives in Pakistan for a brighter national future.
Zindagi Trust has pioneered holistic education models in government schools, influencing policy changes such as the prohibition of corporal punishment and safeguarding millions of Pakistani children from abuse through life skills-based education.
Durbeen is revolutionizing teacher education in Pakistan by collaborating with government teacher colleges to produce qualified educators for public schools. In just five years, Durbeen has modernized infrastructure and introduced innovative teaching methods. It is now introducing a 1.5-year graduate program to train teacher-educators in collaboration with the University of Oxford, a pioneering effort in Pakistan.
The fundraising galas will take place on Friday, March 1, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida, and on Saturday, March 2, at the Royal Sonesta in Houston Galleria, Houston, Texas.
