The Election Commission of Pakistan announced that by-elections for local government seats in Karachi’s 16 districts would take place on Sunday. Electoral staff dispatched the necessary materials to the union councils.
The Election Commission of Pakistan set up a control room/complaint cell for three days, as per their statement on Saturday. They delivered the materials to UCs of Saddar Town and UC 6, 12, and 13, as reported by the ECP’s office in Sindh.
Out of the total polling stations, 42 have been designated as highly sensitive, and 72 as sensitive for the by-elections. Candidates will compete for seats in UC 3, including two vice chairmen and four wards, with an expected voter turnout of 206,686.
Notably, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab is running for the Saddar Town seat, while Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad is vying for the Gadap Town UC seat.
In UC 13 Sadar Town, three candidates will vie for the chairman’s seat: Murtaza Wahab from PPP, Noorul Salam from Jamaat-e-Islami, and Sikander Agar from TLP.
Furthermore, in Kemari district UC 3 Maripur, Saifullah from PPP, Mohammad Zahid from PTI, and Shahid Iqbal from PML-N will compete for the chairman seat.
In Malir district UC 7 Gadap, Salman Abdhullah Murad from PPP, Abdul Hafeez Jokhio from PTI, Mohammad Ayub Khaskheli from JI, and Saalim Ahmed from TLP will contest the chairman’s seat. For the vice chairman seat in Malir district UC 7 Gadap, Saleem Memon from PPP, Mohibullah from PTI, and Maqbool Ahmed from TLP will compete.
In the South district UC 12 Sadar Town, four candidates are running for the vice chairman seat: Hamid Hussain from PPP, Muhammad Tahir from PTI, Gulwaiz Khan from PML-N, and Syed Obaidullah Shah from Jamaat-e-Islami.
Wahab was elected unopposed from Union Council 8 Ibrahim Hydari. The by-elections will be conducted at 209 polling stations in Sindh.
