Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has strongly criticized the unchecked operations of Chingchi rickshaw manufacturers, suggesting that no further permits should be granted to such companies. The remarks came during the hearing of a case concerning environmental pollution.
The court raised serious concerns about the significant role Chingchi rickshaws play in contributing to air pollution and questioned the lack of regulatory oversight over their production.
“These factories should not be allowed to operate unchecked,” the judge observed, hinting at the possibility of shutting them down if necessary. The court emphasized the urgent need to curb the environmental impact of these vehicles.
In a separate matter addressed during the same hearing, the court directed authorities to remove protestors from Lahore’s Mall Road. It noted that ongoing demonstrations on the city’s main thoroughfare were severely disrupting traffic and increasing the daily struggles of commuters.
The court stated that the frequent blockages caused by protests had become a persistent public nuisance and needed immediate resolution to restore order and ease urban mobility.
