ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa expressed his frustration with a lawyer who was switching between Urdu and English while presenting arguments in a land dispute case in the Supreme Court. This incident occurred during Justice Isa’s second day as Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Justice Isa, visibly annoyed, criticized the lawyer for “butchering” both languages and instructed him to choose one language for his arguments and stick to it.
When the lawyer mentioned that the parties involved in the land dispute included Pathans, Justice Isa remarked that Pathans were generally gracious people but could also hold grudges for an extended period. The lawyer responded that he might not have chosen the right moment to make that statement.
This exchange prompted laughter in the courtroom, and Justice Isa humorously suggested that the bench might not reach a consensus on this issue, leading to more laughter.
During his tenure, Chief Justice Isa has been emphasizing the need to address the backlog of cases and prevent frivolous litigation. This incident occurred while discussing the importance of curbing such litigation in land dispute cases.
