Khadija Shah’s Physical Remand
LAHORE: On Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) denied the request for the physical remand of fashion designer Khadija Shah in a third case related to the May 9 riots. Simultaneously, the Lahore High Court summoned the inspector general of police (IGP) to explain her arrest after obtaining bail in two cases.
The Sarwar Road police presented Khadija Shah before the ATC to request her physical remand in a case involving the torching of police vehicles outside Rahat Bakery Chowk in the Cantonment area during the May 9 protests.

The investigating officer, Inspector Naveed Anjum, informed the court that three co-suspects had disclosed that the fashion designer’s house was used for meetings to plan attacks on security installations in case of the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Khadija Shah addressed the court, mentioning that she had already been granted bail by the high court in two cases filed against her. She expressed her frustration at having been in jail for six months and not being able to see her minor daughter.
She contested the police’s claims, asserting that the three suspects referred to by the investigating officer had never visited her residence. She requested the judge to allow her to return home.
Judge Abher Gul Khan instructed the suspect to provide her statement to the police to facilitate the completion of the investigation. The judge noted that the trial for the May 9 cases would conclude soon and subsequently placed Ms. Shah on judicial remand.
On October 23, the police had also brought Khadija Shah before the ATC for physical remand, but the judge had sent her back to jail on judicial remand due to ongoing proceedings related to a contempt petition before the LHC. LHC Summons IGP in Khadija Shah’s Case
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the LHC instructed IGP Dr. Usman Anwar to personally appear on November 3 after CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana failed to satisfy the court regarding Khadija Shah’s arrest in a new case, despite her bail in two cases.
Khadija Shah filed a contempt of court petition, seeking action against the IGP and other police officers for unjustly keeping her behind bars despite being granted bail in the cases related to attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.
