Officer of the year
PESHAWAR: District Police Officer and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sonia Shamroz Khan achieved international recognition when the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) awarded her the ‘Officer of the Year’ in Auckland, New Zealand, for her outstanding contributions to law enforcement, innovative policing strategies, and her unwavering dedication to preventing violence against women throughout her career.
During her tenure as DPO Chitral, Khan played a pivotal role in combatting various issues, including the establishment of a complaint cell to register complaints against forced marriages.
She dedicated her award to the victims of gender discrimination and the hardworking women police officers who performed their duties against all odds.
Khan emphasized that women police officers had been working tirelessly to ensure peace and security.
Khan also highlighted her practice of considering cultural values and sensitivities during her work, which had led to an increase in reporting crimes against women.
Previously, in the remote Battagram district where she served as DPO, women would not seek police help. However, she noted that the situation had now changed.
