Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is leading a rally towards Lahore to show solidarity with the suspended members of the Punjab Assembly.
The Chief Minister described the rally as a peaceful demonstration against what he called “illegal, unconstitutional, and undemocratic actions.”
“Our rally sends a message of peace, love, brotherhood, and tolerance,” Gandapur emphasized, stating that its aim is to defend democratic principles and protect the Constitution.
He further noted that each stage of the rally highlights respect for the Constitution and the public’s right to be represented. “We are not here to create unrest but to support our elected democratic members,” he added.
The KP Chief Minister is joined on the march by provincial ministers, assembly members, and a significant number of party supporters, traveling to Lahore via the GT Road, according to the Chief Minister’s office.
It is worth recalling that on June 27, 2025, several opposition members of the Punjab Assembly were accused of causing disorder and damaging property during a session. In response, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan suspended the membership of 26 members from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
A day later, on June 28, the speaker announced he would forward the case to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the disqualification of these suspended lawmakers.
The suspended members include Malik Fahad Masood, Muhammad Tanvir Aslam, Syed Riffat Mehmood, Yasir Mehmood Qureshi, Kalimullah Khan, Muhammad Ansar Iqbal, Ali Asif, Zulfiqar Ali, Ahmed Mujtaba Chaudhry, Shahid Javed, Muhammad Ismail, Khayal Ahmed, Shehbaz Ahmed, Tayyab Rashid, Imtiaz Mehmood, Ali Imtiaz, Rashid Tufail, Murtaza Iqbal, Khalid Zubair, Ijaz Shafi, Saima Kanwal, Muhammad Naeem, Sajjad Ahmed, Rana Aurangzeb, Shoaib Mir, and Usama Asghar Ali Gujjar.
