KP CM Gandapur and Federal Ministers Unite in Rare Joint Conference, Express Joint Will to Collaborate

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, alongside federal cabinet members including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, convened for a joint press conference in Islamabad. Gandapur highlighted a resolution to the province’s power issues, expressing a willingness to collaborate with the central government.

Tensions between Gandapur’s KP administration and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) over prolonged load shedding prompted Gandapur to threaten taking over Pesco’s system if issues weren’t resolved. Recent hostilities saw PTI MPA Fazl Elahi leading protesters to forcibly activate feeders at Peshawar’s Rehman Baba Grid Station, leading to legal action from Pesco.

During the press conference, Gandapur emphasized cooperation between federal and provincial bodies to address load shedding and energy sector losses due to power theft. Plans were discussed to prevent losses and ensure citizens pay arrears. Gandapur stressed the community-based nature of the project, promising relief for KP until a mechanism is fully established.

Leghari hailed the collaboration as significant progress, indicating plans for an announcement the following day regarding a solution. He envisioned replicating KP’s model nationwide, emphasizing community involvement.

Gandapur reiterated the separation of position from institution, emphasizing the need for cooperation despite political differences. Naqvi acknowledged the electricity shortage in KP, highlighting the successful resolution through intelligent means.

Overall, the press conference showcased a concerted effort to address KP’s power issues through collaboration and community involvement, with plans for broader implementation across the country.
