The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the ‘Solarisation of Houses‘ project to promote renewable energy and reduce reliance on conventional electricity sources. The initiative aims to lower energy costs, ease the burden on the national grid, and support eco-friendly power solutions.
A total of Rs20 billion has been allocated for the project, which has received 2.538 million applications from across the province.
Key Features of the Project:
- Beneficiary Selection: Deserving households are chosen through an electronic balloting process.
- Solar Units: Each unit includes solar panels, batteries, fans, lights, and other essential components to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
- Coverage: The project will benefit 130,000 households in total.
- Support for Merged Districts: 30,000 homes in newly merged districts will receive solar systems.
- Phase One Implementation: In the initial phase, 32,500 families will receive solar units free of charge.
- Installment Plan: A total of 65,000 households will get free units, while others will have the option to purchase solar systems on easy installment plans.
According to officials, this initiative is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills, alleviate pressure on the national power grid, and encourage the adoption of clean energy solutions.
