KARACHI: In the aftermath of New Year celebrations in the country, Karachi police issued a warning on Sunday, stating that individuals engaging in aerial firing during the festivities would face charges of terrorism.
Karachi Police Chief Khadim Hussain Rind emphasized that cases against those involved in aerial firing on New Year’s Eve would include charges of attempted murder and terrorism.
Khadim Hussian stressed the need for robust actions against hooliganism and aerial firing, urging strict law enforcement against offenders.
He also called for search operations, announcements in markets and mosques discouraging aerial firing, and promoting positive police actions through social media to counter any negative impact.
Additionally, a two-day ban on carrying or displaying arms, engaging in aerial firing, and using fireworks has been imposed across Karachi.
Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput stated that the ban, enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), aims to safeguard the public during New Year celebrations.
The ban also extends to visits to entertainment spots, with Karachi Traffic Police urging citizens to use alternate routes for heading towards Defence and residents of Defence to carry original CNICs.
The police have authorized SHOs to register complaints for violations under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In recent years, incidents of aerial firing during New Year’s Eve in Karachi have resulted in injuries. To prevent such incidents, law enforcement agencies are taking proactive measures.
It’s worth noting that the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar had previously announced a complete ban on New Year celebrations as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
