On July 20, 2024, Individualland Pakistan, a research-based consulting firm headquartered in Islamabad, successfully hosted the Conference on Digital Media Businesses by Women Journalists from Balochistan and Sindh.
Held at the Beach Luxury Hotel in Karachi, the event marked a significant achievement in empowering women journalists and showcasing their roles in the digital media sector.
The conference began with participant registration, followed by an introduction by Mr. Mushoud Ali, who set the stage for the event and provided context for the project.
Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Michael Chadwick, Public Diplomacy Chief at the US Consulate in Karachi. He praised the contributions of women journalists from Balochistan and Sindh and emphasized the growing importance of digital media in contemporary journalism.
The subsequent session featured presentations by the women journalists, who showcased their digital products to the appreciation of the attendees.
A lively panel discussion followed, focusing on the role of women in media with an emphasis on their contributions to the digital domain. The panelists included Tariq Mehmood, Director of Media Studies at BUITEMS; Mr. Talha Ahad from The Centrum Media; Mr. Syed Ali Shah of Quetta Voice; Mr. Riaz Sohail from BBC Urdu; and Ms. Myra Imran, a prominent journalist and mentor to the participating women. The discussion provided valuable insights into the challenges women face in the media industry and underscored the necessity for ongoing support and opportunities in the digital media landscape.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Ahmad Younis, Executive Director of Individualland, offered a detailed overview of the role and challenges of women journalists. He called for a collective effort to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in journalism.
