ISLAMABAD: Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, an independent candidate supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), secured a victory against Jahangir Tareen, the chief patron of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), in the NA-149 Multan constituency during the general election of 2024.
Dogar bagged 143,613 votes, while Tareen received 50,166 votes only.
Defeat of Tareen in Multan has stunned many in the country as he was being considered a strong candidate of IPP.
Meanwhile, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, an independent candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), secured victory in NA-10 Buner during the 2024 general election. He received 110,023 votes, surpassing the Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Abdul Rauf, who obtained 30,302 votes.
This victory follows another PTI-backed independent candidate, Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, winning against Jahangir Tareen, the patron-in-chief of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), in NA-149 Multan.
The polling process for the General Election 2024 concluded peacefully, with active participation from voters of all age groups across the country. Polling stations were open from 8 am to 5 pm, with voters present at closing time allowed to cast their votes.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), over 128 million registered voters exercised their right to vote for candidates competing for national and provincial legislatures. The voting encompassed 265 seats of the National Assembly and 590 seats of provincial assemblies, including seats in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh.
Polling took place in 855 constituencies out of 859, with exceptions in NA-8, PP-266, PK-22, and PK-91 due to the death of candidates.
