RAWALPINDI: An army captain and a soldier were killed during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a statement, the ISPR identified the martyrs as Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, a resident of the Rahim Yar Khan district, and Havaldar Shafiq Ullah, 36, a resident of the Karak district. They were martyred during an operation against terrorists.
At least five terrorists were killed while three were injured in the operation. A sanitization operation was subsequently carried out to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR statement read.
This operation comes amid a surge in terrorist activities across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan since the outlawed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
Earlier on April 9, security forces gunned down two terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in KP’s South Waziristan. The ISPR noted that the terrorists had been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area. Weapons and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from the slain terrorists.
The recent increase in terrorist activities has prompted intensified operations by security forces in affected regions. These efforts aim to disrupt and dismantle terrorist networks to ensure peace and stability in the country.
The sacrifices of Pakistan’s security forces in combating terrorism are a testament to their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation. As the threat of terrorism persists, the resolve of the Pakistani armed forces remains steadfast in their mission to protect the country and its citizens.
