ISPR: 4 soldiers martyred and 5 injured in a tragic attack on Pakistan Army’s Zhob Garrison

RAWALPINDI: The Zhob Garrison of the Pakistani Army in Northern Balochistan was the target of a “dastardly attack” by terrorists. Four soldiers were martyred, and five soldiers remain critically injured, as informed by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Terrorists attacked the garrison in the early morning hours of July 12, according to ISPR. Soldiers on duty countered the initial attempt to get into the facility, as noted by the ISPR.

After the interception, a fierce firefight took place between the terrorists and the military. It resulted in the militants being “contained into a small area at the boundary”.

According to the statement, the security forces are currently conducting a clearing operation to capture the two remaining terrorists.

The ISPR said, “Security forces remain committed to thwarting all such abominable attempts to undermine peace of Balochistan and Pakistan.”

As the security forces step up operations to combat the threat of terrorism, terrorist attacks have grown in Pakistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remain the top target.

A statistical study published by the nonpartisan think tank Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed that the number of terrorist incidents in the nation increased by 79% during the first half of 2023.

The study expressed concern, indicating that at least 271 insurgent assaults occurred during the previous six months. The attacks cost 389 lives and injured 656 people.

Given that there were 151 assaults, 293 deaths, and 487 injuries in the first half of 2022, the situation in the same period last year was far better than it is now.

According to these numbers, there was a startling 79% rise in militant assaults during the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, 228 assaults in the second half of 2022 resulted in 349 injuries and 246 fatalities. As a result, there were 18% more assaults in the first half of 2023 than in the second half of 2022. There is also a 58% jump in fatalities and an 88% surge in injuries.

During the first half of 2023, Pakistani security forces increased their efforts to combat terrorism. They killed at least 236 terrorists around the nation and detained 295 other suspect militants.
