Islamia University Bahawalpur scandal takes a new turn

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an inquiry against the administration of Islamia University Bahawalpur. It has included the names of the accused individuals involved in the scandal on the Exit Control List (ECL).

According to the FIA Deputy Director, the list of individuals placed on the ECL includes former Vice Chancellor Athar Mehboob, former Director of Finance Abu Bakr, and former Chief Security Officer, among others.

The FIA has indicated that a comprehensive investigation will cover all financial transactions conducted by the university. The FIA said that stringent measures will be taken against those found guilty.

In a related development, Professor Naveed Akhtar, the acting Vice Chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur, revealed that they have suspended and detained the university’s Chief Security Officer.

HEC Forms A Fact-Finding Committee To Investigate the Incident

Earlier, the HEC set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the scandal that took place at the Islamic University Bahawalpur. The committee will be led by Dr. Muhammad Ali, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU). The primary task of the HEC-formed committee is to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The other members of the committee include Lt. Gen (R) Moazzam Ejaz from the National University Islamabad, Pro-Vice Chancellor Najma Najam from the International University Lahore, Rector Tahira Aziz Mughal from the Imperial College of Business Studies Lahore, and P&D Finance Advisor Mazhar Saeed.

The fact-finding committee will review the evidence, interview relevant individuals, and prepare a comprehensive probe report based on their findings. The aim is to ascertain the truth behind the scandal. It also aims to identify the people in the illegal activities that came to light at the Islamic University Bahawalpur.
