Islamabad Suspends Metro Bus Service Until Friday Due to Security Concerns

The Islamabad district administration has announced the suspension of the Metro Bus service in the city until Friday, citing security concerns. This decision follows the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, as delegations continue returning to their home countries. According to officials, this temporary suspension is part of increased security measures.

The district administration also stated that buses operating on feeder routes connected to the Metro Bus service will be halted during this period. These actions are aimed at ensuring the safety and smooth travel for visiting dignitaries.

Earlier, the government unveiled a detailed traffic plan for Rawalpindi and Islamabad to accommodate the SCO conference, which took place from October 14 to 16. The plan involved several road closures and diversions to facilitate traffic flow amid the high-profile event. During this period, heavy traffic was prohibited in both cities, and over 1,100 traffic officers were deployed to manage the situation.

Significant road closures included the Islamabad Expressway, stretching from Zero Point to Koral Chowk. Moreover, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service was fully suspended from October 14 to 17, with no service between Sadar Station and Pak Secretariat during this time.

These security and traffic management measures highlight the administration’s efforts to ensure a secure environment for SCO delegates and residents. Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly as the Metro Bus service suspension continues until Friday.
