ISLAMABAD: In an overnight operation, Islamabad Police intercepted a significant haul of explosives and weapons in the Sangjani area, as part of enhanced security measures for the upcoming Muharram observances. The cache included hand grenades, a suicide jacket, and an AK-47 rifle.
Officials reported that the intelligence-based operation (IBO), aimed at ensuring public safety, resulted in the discovery of alarming weaponry, including detonators and materials for a suicide jacket. The bomb disposal squad was promptly summoned to neutralize the explosives.
During the operation, suspects opened fire on the approaching police team and subsequently fled the scene. The area was quickly secured, and a comprehensive search operation was underway with increased personnel strength.
A spokesperson for the police underscored the daily execution of such operations across Islamabad, stressing their importance in pre-empting potential terror activities and ensuring the safety of the populace during sensitive times.
Authorities have initiated a First Information Report (FIR) at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, and special teams have been mobilized to track down the absconding suspects, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to maintaining security during the high-alert period.
